Chapter 15-
To my surprise, I didn't have to track Raechal down the next day: she got up the courage to drive herself to my house. I had just woken up and was going downstairs to eat breakfast when I saw her standing in my living room. As soon as I saw her, I looked down at what I was wearing: just my underwear: fantastic.
"Um, let me put some clothes on. " I heard her chuckle as I ran upstairs into my room. I threw on the first shirt and shorts I saw and ran back downstairs. With Raechal behind me, I headed into the kitchen to make myself a bowl of cereal. I offered to make her something, but she kindly refused.
"So what brings you here at," I looked at the clock, "ten in the morning."
"I'm really sorry, I guess I should have called you to make sure you were up. I'm an early riser so ten is late to me."
"And by early riser you mean..."
"I wake up at like five thirty or six every morning: guess I have a lot to get done during the day so I just make time by starting early." We sat and talked while I finished eating my cereal. When I was done, I quickly took a shower and got dressed, making sure I was presentable. As I walked downstairs, I heard Raechal talking to my mom. I stopped where I was to listen in. My mom was saying how she was glad Raechal was a part of my life and how much different I am because I met her. It was like Raechal brought me back to life and out of the depression I was in after Madi died. As I sat there and listened, I realized it was all true. I was in a depression after she died, and now I was happier than ever. After hearing enough of what they were saying, I decided to stop eavesdropping.
"Hey, are you ready to go?"
"Um, yah. Thank you Mrs. Jonas, it was nice meeting you." My mom smiled as she gave Raechal a quick and friendly hug.
"No problem sweetie, anytime, and it was nice meeting you as well." Raechal turned around and headed towards me. From behind her, my mom gave me a thumbs up sign and I couldn't help but smile. I started to walk towards my car when she pulled my arm and led me to her truck.
"I thought you would let me drive for a change." I hesitantly got into the passenger seat: I wasn't sure if I trusted that truck, but I gave in and let Raechal take charge for once. It always seemed like I was trying too hard to get closer to her, and with the attitude she was having, I felt like she was finally trying to get close to me for a change. When she turned her car on, her speakers blasted with music that seemed way too familiar to me. My own voice was filling up the car as the music played, and then suddenly it shut off. I looked over at Raechal, who had her hand on the radio button: her cheeks as red as the shirt I was wearing.
"So, do you want to tell me something?" I laughed because she never seemed the type to listen to our music, but then again she did know who I was when I ran into her that one day.
"Nope." We both looked at each other and laughed. As we rode on, we sang to whatever song that came on the radio and laughed every time when we had no clue what the lyrics were to the next verse. We drove for what seemed like forever until Raechal pulled into a small parking lot. The place looked all too familiar, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to get out of the car.
"Hey are you ok?" I looked at Raechal, who was already opening her door. I nodded and followed her outside. We walked along the shore for a little while in total silence, neither of us bothering to say anything. And then Raechal walked up the beach and sat down in the sand and patted the area next to her with a smile. I sat down next to her, but even after I sat down no one said a word. It wasn't until a couple minutes later that Raechal decided to talk.
"So, tell me about Madi." Her request shocked me, but with the way she looked at me I couldn't say no. I told her everything: from the moment I met her in the recording studio right up until the day I said goodbye. She listened to everything I had to say. She laughed when I was saying something funny, cried when I was saying something sad, and even shook her head when she thought I was being a bit ridiculous. I think I talked for a few hours, because when I was done I was exhausted. When I got done, I looked out down the shore at the dock where my future changed forever.
"Well, she was a lucky girl to have a great guy like you to love her as much as you did." She was wrong. Madi wasn't the lucky one: I was. I was lucky to have someone like her to love me, but unfortunately my luck ran short. I looked at Raechal who was looking out past the ocean, almost as if she were thinking as hardly as I was. As I was about to question her, my phone rang.
