As much as I love playboating, creekboating, and squirtboating I am far from an expert at any of them. I'm not a thrill seeker, daredevil, or extreme paddler but rather just a 'soul boater' at heart. I am happy - indeed happiest - simply being on a river. That's where I'm the most myself, the most at home.
Most of what I know about kayaking was gleaned from the example of good company, the school of hard knocks, and the illustrated book 'Kayak' by the late, great William Nealy. I am forever grateful for the 'riverese', 'paddle-fu', and 'kayak to hell' attitude those pages instilled in me.
Although I rarely have to swim, I'm glad my mother made me take all those lessons when I was a kid.
