Healthcare not Warfare in Rice Lake jschlei2 - 129 views - 2 weeks ago
American militarism far exceeds what is needed for our country's defense. Throughout history we have seen violence only result in more violence.

Militarism's causes are economic and political. It would not flourish without the propaganda that has eroded peoples' better instincts. Many incorrectly believe that there is nothing that can be done about it.

A well-informed citizenry that takes citizenship's responsibilities seriously can turn our country's priorities away from war and exploitation toward working for the benefit of its citizens. Hope and faith are important but hard work is also required. Demonstrating for progressive change is part of that work.

On June 21st 2009, People for Peace demonstrated for peaceful, healthy solutions at the annual Rice Lake, Wisconsin AquaFest. Marchers wore 60s clothes, in keeping with the peace anthem, "Give Peace a Chance" by John Lennon. In solidarity with Iraq Moratorium and Peace North, marchers carried signs and engaged the public with their message, "Healthcare not Warfare"

Let the healing begin!

Global implementation of religious principles needed jschlei2 - 34 views - 3 weeks ago
In our fiercely divided world, what is needed is a global application of the basic, shared values of the world's religions.

The Golden Rule is universal. Love, tolerance, compassion, caring for the sick and the poor are universal values that should inform and transform the foreign policies of all nations.

People and their nations must change their way of thinking and acting while we still can make a difference.

We may be looking for God in all the wrong places. An ancient story may send us in the right direction.

Deepak Chopra on Religion and War jschlei2 - 19 views - 3 weeks ago
People invented religion and dogma. The human characteristic of claiming superiority caused people to claim their religion was the only or best religion and gave leaders a tool to take their people to war.

Misuse of Religion jschlei2 - 6 views - 3 weeks ago
It is not religion itself but people who misuse religion's power to motivate others who are the cause of so called religious violence in the world.

Non-violent origin of religions jschlei2 - 5 views - 3 weeks ago
All of the world's major religions were founded on the abhorrence of violence and the taming of people's violent impulses. Those who would use religious teachings to promote violence are twisting religion for their own selfish purposes.

Pete Seeger on Activism jschlei2 - 41 views - 2 months ago
If you think you can't make a difference, listen to the wisdom of the man who has "been there" as a leading and inspiring activist for nearly 70 years. Don't be discouraged, be steady. Don't count the crops you reap. Rather, count the seeds you sow.

On Democracy Now!, Pete said, "Realize that little things lead to bigger things. That's what (the album) "Seeds" is all about. And this wonderful parable in the New Testament: the sower scatters seeds. Some seeds fall in the pathway and get stamped on, and they don't grow. Some fall on the rocks, and they don't grow. But some seeds fall on fallow ground, and they grow and multiply a thousand fold. Who knows where some good little thing that you've done may bring results years later that you never dreamed of?"

Amy Goodman Not On "Meet The Press" jschlei2 - 92 views - 4 months ago
Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! will not be on "Meet the Press" because of the basic clash between corporate or mainstream media and independent media. Amy is known internationally as a critic of mainstream media bias toward corporate America and against the interest of the common people.

Amy has biases too. As a long time fan, I can say that her work shows her to be against, among other things, the killing of innocent civilians and against the rigging of government and corporate America in favor of the rich.

The People's Mandate jschlei2 - 69 views - 7 months ago
Given the power, sophistication and entrenchment of the Military-Industrial-Corporate- Congressional Complex, no elected official, no matter how well intentioned, can resist imperialism unless emboldened by a clear mandate coming from the grass roots.

With the campaign and election of Barack Obama, a new era of activism may unfold. Some are waiting for leadership from the new President and other self-starters are siezing the opportunity to mobilize, organize, and communicate.

That is where the people's power, the people's mandate for real change will come from.

This site presents my most valued facts and opinions on health care, education, the environment, the war on Iraq, impeachment, campaign finance reform, human rights and civil rights. I try to emphasize solutions over complaints.

Things this country has done wrong can be done better and will be done better once the public demands it.

Strengthening and promoting independent media are essential to preserving and protecting our democracy.
About Me: I have been an interactive media developer for more than 35 years, having co-authored research projects with some of the early pioneers of the industry. During my career, I have developed and consulted on interactive media for agencies of federal and local governments, as well as for universities, private businesses and nonprofit groups.

I use a systematic approach to learning; working in depth with clients and subject matter and then analyzing the effects of my programs on my audience. Programming is continuously fine-tuned via automated feedback from learners. For each project, I work to establish automated learning systems which clients are able to master and then continue programming with only limited consultation from interactive media specialists.

I am a media chameleon, specializing in environmental, historical and medical education. I served as Communications Co-chair, Webmaster and Database Manager of the International Interactive Communications Society (IICS) Minnesota Chapter.

As International Vice President of IICS, I produced the interactive media panels for NAB 2000. My presentation to broadcasters was about Educational Interactive TV.

I served as an international coordinator of interactive media judges at Milia d'Or 2000 in Cannes, France and coordinated judges regionally for the International Film and Video Festival in Chicago.
