The Nichiren Shu is a Buddhist Order founded by Nichiren Shonin (1222-1282). We believe that the Lotus Sutra (Saddharma-Pundarika Sutra) represents the embodiment of the genuine teachings of Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Our belief in this doctrine is affirmed by our chanting of the Odaimoku (Sacred Title):

Adoration to the Sublime Law
of the Lotus of the Perfect Truth.

All the good deeds and virtues of the Buddha Shakyamuni are manifested in the title of the Lotus Sutra, that is, in the five characters : Myo; Ho Ren Ge Kyo;. However sinful we may be, we shall be naturally endowed with all the deeds and virtues of the Buddha if we adhere to these five characters. — from Kanji Honzon Sho, A Treatise Revealing the Spiritual Contemplation and the Object of Worship, ST.711

Since time immemorial all of the people on earth have been the Buddha Shakyamuni's beloved children. We had not realized the relationship, because we had been undutiful children.
