Here is the first song of the original adaptation of "Treasure Island" where the whole cast (except Long John) is introduced. It was written on the premise that there's always a reason to drink. Whether you're drowning out your misery, or celebrating your victories. You'll notice that the stage is split in half. Females (in misery) on the left, and Males (celebrating) on the right. "A Spot of Rum" becomes the excuse, motivation, or the result of everyone's action in the scene. (less info)
