Welcome to Johnny Mnemonic's Strength Training Videos! Please leave a comment, question, or constructive criticism! ...and hey, if enough people subscribe maybe youtube will feature a lifting video for once instead of Chocolate Rain video replies and dog owners' home movies...

My athletic background is in gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, competitive swimming, and powerlifting. I have coached swimming at the age-group, high school, D3, and masters levels, and served as a S&C coach at the high school level.

That first jump looked like it hurt!
Think hips rather than knees - a lot of people will bow the legs rather than outwardly rotate the hips and you're just setting up yourself for a knee issue if you do. With an upright position and full squat, you can't be on the heels as much as a PL/power squat but feel it out - you'll know.
Great question - I think it depends on your goals. PLers using a safety squat bar might drive the hips back, but it's going to really hammer your lower back that way. I can count the number of times I've used a SSB on one hand, so I can't speak with authority on it, but that's how I see it.
Tabata Squat w. 225 (1 month ago)
I know, I know... I call :20 seconds exertion, :10 rest x 8 "Tabata". Is it REALLY "Tabata Protocol"? No. Is it still a challenging workout? Hell yes. Will it improve your VO2max even if it isn't done as prescribed? Probably. I almost never run.
I don't think there's a reliable formula - you just have to try it to know.

Squatting for over 20 years now....and still learning!

Have just spent an afternoon watching your Squat RX series.

Thank you!
Very clear, non-patronising and instructive.

I'll definitely be trying the stretches and pre/rehab straight away!

Greetings from Ireland, Peter

Hi,

really great videos!
Can u make a video where u put main squat points together?
It may helps to remember what u have said earlier videos.
And how about deadlift techniques? Or have u done it?

Greetings from Finland,
T

Not bad trying to make it more busy but concentrating on the writing, trying to get a private place for training now. Lots of fun, loving the powerclean vid.
