hey anything new lately? i have to say that your knowledge of comedy is almost wisdom-like in its breadth. i had never checked out the marx brothers until i read you mentioning and referencing their material over and over. not only did i love "a night at the opera", but i realzied you were also right on point about robert benigni being a clown genius; that silent marx, the clown one, Benigni must have studied him intensely!
one of my own observations is that benigni fuzed (maybe not conciously) all the best qualities about the each of the marx brothers into his own character. he has the perfect physical slapstick, along with the foolery and ignorance of the "foreigner", on top of quite a bit of wit at times. i can't think of an example of his wit but if you watch him being interviewed, live, by David Letterman, you get the idea that he is on top of things in a groucho sort of way. ahh good times |
