These video clips show one of a kind tree sculptures that are created from a 3-4 inch thick slab of wood. First, trunks and branches are cut out, shaped and sanded smooth to expose the beautiful wood grain. Then, branches are carved and the ends contoured and glued to the trunk. Next, leaves, beads and flowers are made from various materials and attached to the tree with wire. A pot is then constructed to hold the tree.

In the Winter of 1995 I decided to create Bonsai from a slab of wood. My live trees were in a cold frame waiting for Spring to arrive. As a landscaper and artist my passion for Bonsai came naturally. My first attempt of a tree sculpture was a modest version of my later work. These sculptures, although not intended to look real, follow basic Bonsai styling guidelines with proportions and branch placement. paramount. These trees were inspired by the ancient art of Bonsai and I acknowledge that nothing beats a "live' specimen.
