Since the vlogging community enjoys collaborating, I thought I'd make my response all about that :)

Details:

This year for Red Nose Day we are attempting to raise money through the YouTube community in the form of a response web.

There are three base videos to respond to. Each with a different category, these being:
-Music
-Film / Sketch
-Vlogging

In creating three categories it is hoped that more people are able to respond and spread the word about RND.

The idea is that each video carries the donation link (http://tinyurl.com/RedNose200 9) in the description, and is responded to the base video for their category, thus encouraging fund raising on a wider scale.

So I've been playing on dailybooth:

And have been trying out alternatives to my built in iSight and I worked out that I could use my Canon EOS 50D digital slr stills camera, with remote LiveView capture software and screengrabbing webcam software to use my D-SLR as a 15 megapixel, wonderfully crisp webcam with a wonderful depth of field.

I realised that if I could do that, then I could use screencasting software to record the video output instead - ta da

Process:

1) Take a ViewView enabled canon D-SLR (50D, 450D, 1000D, etc)
2) Connect it up to a computer with EOS Utility running
3) Start up the Remote Capture part of the utility
4) Select 'Remote LiveView Shooting'
5) Run screen recording software (I used Screenium)
6) Record fixed segement of screen over Canon window
7) You've got yourself your very own 15MPx webcam!
