My old approach of digitally inking my line art in Photoshop before I discovered Corel Painter and the WACOM Intuos tablet. :)

The Evolution of a Digital Image - Part Six - Coloring in Photoshop CS4 jeremyfarlow - 780 views - 3 weeks ago
Last part of this series.

You will notice around the time I am coloring her shoulder area, that her corset is still filled with the flat base colors, but by the time I moved on to her red elbow garment, the corset and much of her attire are done. This is because during those times the capturing software suddenly crashed, taking 20 minutes of footage with it. But still managed to squeeze in about an hour and a half of work into 7 minutes.

Sped to 8x its original speed.

The Evolution of a Digital Image - Part Five - Laying Flats jeremyfarlow - 418 views - 3 weeks ago
Flatting in Adobe Photoshop CS4 in OS X Leopard using a WACOM Intuos3 tablet. Sped 4x its original recording speed.

Flatting is a process in comic book coloring that basically lays down all the base colors for your page or image before you add in the special effects like lights and shadows. Though a tedious process at times, its a beneficial process to do if you ever want to re-edit a part of your image.

Evolution of a Digital Image - Part Four - Digital Inking through Painter jeremyfarlow - 581 views - 4 weeks ago
Digital inks are done in Corel Painter X in OS X Leopard using a WACOM Intuos3 tablet. Sped up to 8x its original recording speed, as I had to compress almost an hour and a half of footage into under 10 minutes.

Corel Painter, for some unknown reason, crashed a few times while I was recording, so there are a few edits I had to make to create the illusion that the entire inking process was captured. There are a few elements I had to cut off because of time constraints.

This is part four.

Evolution of a Digital Image - Part Three - Cleaning up the Mess jeremyfarlow - 404 views - 4 weeks ago
This sketch was done entirely in Adobe Photoshop CS4 in OS X Leopard using a WACOM Intuos3 tablet. Sped up twice its original recording speed.

As previously stated in part two, wasn't happy with some of the elements of her costume, so here you see the changes. The speed of this segment is faster in some areas to compress an hour's work into under 10 minutes of footage, so I hope you don't get cross-eyed or a headache.

This is part three.

What you see here won't necessarily be what the final design will be, but by roughing out what you have in mind is helpful at the next stage. For example, not really fond of her thigh high boots, so that will and not sure with those headphones (she has pointy ears behind them) . The power of digital sketching is that if you don't like something, change it on the fly.

And for those who notice, I'm taking inspiration from Shirow Masamuné on my character's look.

Evolution of a Digital Image - Part One - Sketching the Base jeremyfarlow - 758 views - 1 month ago
This sketch was done entirely in Adobe Photoshop CS4 in OS X Leopard using a WACOM Intuos3 tablet. Sped up twice its original recording speed.

I used just one basic PSCS4 brush with Pen Pressure from the tablet. The pose is paying homage to the great George Petty.

Its important to any artist to start sketching out your base character first before adding details. This will make you concentrate on getting the anatomy right before you add in the details like clothes and whatnot.

As stated, this is part one.

Second try with capturing how I sketch on video. Hope this time you can see. Sorry for the angle, no way for me to situate the camera any better.

Music is Everybody's Fool by Evanescence from their album Fallen.

Edited with iMovie.
