In September 2000, at the United Nations Millennium Summit, world leaders agreed to the Millennium Development Goals, a set of time-bound and measurable goals for combating poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women.
In September 2008, YouTube and participating nonprofit organizations called on YouTube community members to ensure that world leaders keep their promise to the world's poorest citizens.
Thousands answered the call, and the best video responses were used to create a mash-up video. The mash-up is currently being played on screens through United Nations Headquarters in New York, as well as on Time Warner Cable's UN Channel 78.
