Dismounted vehicle and weapon operations conducted under stressed shooting conditions with Nutnfancy and crew. This is the kind of shooting where as I reviewer I can best draw my systems conclusions. On paper lots of things look like they should work good but until you get out and give them a trial "by fire" you really don't know. The "BC" scenario consisted of two-man teams dismounting from a truck after a roadblock by "insurgents" and then engaging AWAY from the vehicle as they progressed (ran) up a skirmish line to gain the offensive. Safety was paramount and though not shown, briefed heavily and taken seriously throughout the exercise (vehicle operations and leapfrogging require utmost care). All shooters kept rounds against the given hillside backdrops. No attempt was made to mirror other training techniques, training centers, or schools of thought; we do our own thing in TNP and do enough shooting to draw our own conclusions of the efficacy of the techniques. Because of terrain and tie constraints no cover was sought or used in the exercise. Yelling at the shooter served to elevate stress levels, keep the team safe (awareness of other team member), and to bring some good training to the gear testing protocol. A full series of Nutnfancy videos showing the details and lessons drawn will accompany "Breaking Contact." Participants included DrHeckles of Impact Guns, GhostOfPain1 (USMC combat Iraq vet), ArmedSerentity, Brian N., and Nutnfancy. Guns represented included Nutnfancy with Arsenal SGL21-72 and S&W M&P9, DrHeckles with custom-build RRA/YHM,Young Machine AR-15 and XDm45, GhostOfPain1 with S&W M&P15 and H&H45, ArmedSerenity with Bushmaster AR-15 and H&K USP 45 full size, and Brian N. with modded Rocker River "Entry Tactical" AR-15 and XDm40 (had a few issues with it...the curse continues!). This was one of my most difficult shooting protocols I've come up with and challenged all the shooters; was strenuous and the many of the shots came at extended ranges. Bad guys targets ranged from 22 to 36 yards for the pistol plates to 95 yards for many of the roadside bad guys. All chose to shoot from dropped knee or standing positions and each shooter sent 65 rounds downrange in each engagement (45 rifle, 20 pistol) with four emergency reloads made necessary. In my first real tactical run with an AK system I come away impressed and infatuated with the Arsenal SGL21 in 7.62x39mm: AK-74 muzzle break really works, it's 100% reliable, lightweight, fast, has a good trigger, and I still love that sound. It still possesses the ergonomic drawbacks I've identified earlier but with a quality optic it was one of the best shooting guns in BC.
