Après l'agression de Silvio Berlusconi maintenant c'est le tour du pape Benoît XVI. Un cardinal français gravement blessé par Susanna Maiolo 25 ans, une Italo-Suisse. Il ne faut pas être un responsable en Italie en ce moment. Immédiatement arrêtée, Susanna a été interrogée par les gendarmes du Vatican avant d'être hospitalisée, a indiqué le père Federico Lombardi, un porte-parole du Vatican, sans plus de précisions. C'est vraisemblablement cette même personne, déjà vêtue de rouge, qui avait tenté un geste identique il y a tout juste un an, selon le porte-parole. Le 24 décembre 2008, une jeune femme avait alors essayé de franchir les barrières de sécurité pour s'approcher du pape à la fin de la messe de minuit, mais avait été interceptée par la sécurité. Cette année, elle figurait parmi les fidèles qui disposaient d'un ticket et avaient pris place dans la basilique. Benoît XVI a tout juste eu le temps d'entrer, entouré d'une trentaine de cardinaux. Elle s'est alors jetée sur lui, l'a attrapé par le col en le tirant vers elle, avant qu'il tombe. La messe de minuit avait été avancée cette année à 22 heures pour ménager le pape, dont la santé est fragile. Mais une femme s'est jetée sur Benoît XVI alors qu'il faisait son entrée dans la basilique Saint-Pierre de Rome pour y célébrer la messe de minuit, le faisant chuter. Le pape, apparemment indemne, s'est relevé et a célébré l'office long de deux heures, mais le cardinal français Roger Etchegaray, âge de 87 ans, également projeté au sol dans la confusion. Il a été évacué sur un fauteuil roulant et hospitalisé pour une fracture du fémur. Sur une vidéo amateur, on peut voir une femme vêtue de touge qui saute la barrière de sécurité, prend le pape par le col et le tire vers elle, le faisant tomber à terre, alors qu'il s'avançait dans la basilique accompagné d'une trentaine de cardinaux. L'inconnue a été arrêtée et interrogée par les gendarmes du Vatican. Il semble qu'elle souffre de troubles psychiques. Cette femme avait déjà tenté l'an dernier de franchir une barrière pour approcher le pape lors de la messe de minuit. "C'était une agression mais pas dangereuse car elle n'était pas armée", a expliqué le porte-parole du pape, le père Federico Lombardi, soulignant "la grande maîtrise de soi et de la situation" dont a fait preuve Benoît XVI qui s'est rapidement relevé pour célébrer la cinquième messe de Noël de son pontificat comme si rien ne s'était passé. La femme qui a agressé le souverain pontife, une une Italo-Suisse âgée de 25 ans, a été hospitalisée, a indiqué vendredi matin le Saint-Siège. Le pape devrait délivrer vendredi sa bénédiction biannuelle "urbi et orbi" (à la ville et au monde) du balcon central de Saint-Pierre.
