Mariah Carey hizo un largo e incoherente discurso de aceptación al recibir el premio a la actriz revelación por su trabajo en Precious en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Palm Springs. La diva de la música pop, ataviada en un vestido largo negro de Herve Leger, fue escoltada la noche del martes al escenario y, ya en el podio, saludó al presentador del premio, el director de Precious Lee Daniels, con un pequeño baile y un fuerte abrazo.

El martes por la noche Mariah Carey subió al escenario del Palm Springs Fil Festival para recoger el premio a la Mejor Actriz Secundaria por su papel en la película Precious, que le entregaba el propio director de la cinta, Lee Daniels. La cantante y actriz sorprendió a propios y extraños con un discurso incoherente. Entre risitas de niña traviesa y tambaleándose, Mariah Carey abrazó Daniels con un "te quiero" y, entre "¡oh! dios mío", le pidió disculpas a la audiencia "porque estoy un poco...". "¡Borracha!", gritó alguien entre el público, lo que despertó las risas y aplausos de los presentes, incluida Mariah. Después divagó durante unos minutos sobre Push -el libro que inspiró la película- su autora y el director, antes de comenzar a aplaudir espontáneamente.
