REMEMBER- the holidays are coming up.. and most spas give gift cards. so maybe ask for a facial from friends or family. you won't be disappointed! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: how often should i get a facial? A: most people recommend every 4-6 weeks. but who really has the time or money for that?! in reality, any facial you get is going to help your skins over all appearance. even just 1 a year! Q: how much money are facials? A: a facial is a way to pamper yourself. and it isn't cheap! but most facials range anywhere from $45-$200. Q: who will do my facial? A: a licensed aesthetician. you will probably form a bond with whoever does yours and go back to the same person over and over again. if you don't like the person who did yours.. don't be scared to ask to switch the next time- or try out a different spa! change is good. Q: do i really need a facial? A: i recommend it. and most anyone who has ever had a facial will too! Q: what's extracting?! A: basically- she is "picking" all of the blackheads out of your skin for you... and she'll get some acne areas too! Q: will my skin look perfect right after a facial? A: NO! it will take a few days to clear up.. but then it will look and feel better than ever. Q: is it okay to ask for extracting? A: yes! when i first went in i was scared to make heather extract. i mean really? i didn't want to make her pick at my face. but then she asked me if i like to pick at my own face. when i replied yes she said, okay.. i do too! it kinda bums me out when someone says they don't want it! from then on i have had her extract! Q: wait, so what's the dermawand? or "zapper"? A: not all spas will use this on your skin, but some will. it basically just sends electric impulses through your skin to bring bacteria to a head so that it leaves your skin. your face will most likely break out from this at first... but then the bacteria that causes the breakouts will be gone! Q: is it relaxing? A: yes! most of the time there will be soft music playing and the lights will be dimmed. the aesthetician probably won't talk much (mine did for the sake of the video!) but you will most likely fall into a soft sleep. Q: how much do i tip my aesthetician? A: normally it's 15-20% IF YOU ARE IN THE DESTIN, FL AREA. the spa i go to is AMAZING and you will love it. i go to heather but all of the girls there are fantastic. here's the info... slender smiths day spa 1234 airport road, suite 118 destin, fl 32541 (850) 650-9989

This is a Halloween video trick I did for my Nature of Math class at Biola University, October 28, 2009. It was another experiment in video editing and mixing video with live action. UPDATE: Version 2 - I fixed the audio so you can hear what I'm saying better. All this attention was quite a surprise - I mainly posted the video for the students who weren't in class that day, and so my students could pass it on to a few friends. I've read a bunch of comments, and I have a few general responses: Math: No, I wasn't actually trying to teach anything with the video - it was just for fun. This was the last 5 minutes of a 75 minute class - I actually taught real math for the first 70 minutes. And yes, I love teaching this class, and I try to keep it lively by doing little fun things like this once in a while. Software/Camera: I used Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, version 12.1 - the "picture-in-picture" feature for the special effects. I filmed it with a simple Panasonic PV-GS35 MiniDV camcorder. Idea/Time: I did this last semester as an April Fool's joke. New class, new year, I decided to try it again, with a few more twists. It took me about 45 minutes to film the video, maybe 2 hours to edit and refine it, then I practiced the interaction with the video a couple times. Class: This was filmed with a video camera on a tripod in the back of class, with about 80 people in class that day. Those are real people, not a laugh track. The class is called "Nature of Math," and is a general education class for non-math people. We do some basic math and study the history and philosophy of math. Yes, that's Edwin Abbott's "Flatland" I mention - students have to read it for the class. Biola (biola.edu) is a private Christian university located in a Los Angeles suburb. I don't place much significance in Halloween, but I don't mind trivializing the day, and making it just about candy and costumes. The disclaimer at the end of version 2 is an imitation of the disclaimer Michael Jackson put at the beginning of his "Thriller" video. (BTW, Biola grad Judith Hill sang the last song at his funeral. Yeah, Biola!) So thanks again for all your generous comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hope it inspires you to go out and do creative, fun things of your own.
