11月18日在香港大球場舉行的亞洲盃外圍賽A組賽事，主場的香港代表隊以0:4不敵日本國家隊。今天的入場人數為13,254，購票人數為11,962，門券收入港幣$529,850元正。開賽初段代表隊與日本隊踢成均勢，亦有多次反擊機會。14分鐘，代表隊在左路迫得自由球，陳肇麒接應盧均宜傳中，造成日本隊門前一陣混亂，皮球最後僅僅柱邊出界。18分鐘，日本隊前鋒大久保嘉人禁區內勁射，代表隊門將張春暉拍出不遠，岡崎慎司再回傳大久保嘉人補射，又被陳偉豪護空門擋出。直至33分鐘長谷部誠中路三十多碼右腳勁射，皮球貼柱入網，為日本隊先開紀錄。之後日本隊攻擊一浪接一浪，39分鐘，駒野友一右路傳入禁區，岡崎慎司接應窄位抽射，張春暉封位撲出。41分鐘，岡崎慎司右路推入禁區，扣過出迎的張春暉再橫傳中路的松井大輔轉身施射，吳偉超飛身白界前擋出。44分鐘，田中闘莉王後上助攻，禁區頂接應右路傳送頭鎚攻門，張春暉單手撲出不遠，謝雷白界線前解圍。上半場代表隊落後一球返更衣室。換邊後日本隊攻勢依然旺盛，55分鐘，大久保嘉人接應岡崎慎司左路橫傳，轉身起腳抽射被張春暉沒收。75分鐘，日本隊瓦解代表隊一次攻勢後立刻反擊，內田篤人突破越位推入禁區起右腳勁射中柱彈出，隨即又被日本隊截得皮球，最後由後備入替的佐藤寿人接應遠藤保仁傳中，禁區內頭鎚破網，日本隊領先至2:0。84分鐘，中村俊輔處理罰球，皮球直彎人牆近柱入網，將比數擴大至3:0。到補時階段，日本隊由岡崎慎司射入一記點球，為日本隊鎖定4:0的比數完場。
