Every 22 minutes, a landmine somewhere on Earth goes off causing at casualty. Landmines can cost as little as 80 cents to purchase but it costs about $1,000 to train and equip one to remove them. They are left over from civil wars, primarily African, and their locations are kept secret even after the wars' ends. Children find the small, green, plastic mines and, thinking they are toys, end up traumatized. This commercial was produced by the United Nations for American television. It saw no air time because of its 'contraversial' content. It shows no gore and is less offensive than most American television, yet it was not played because, let's face it, Americans do not like to see harm done to Americans.
The United States, the most powerful country in the world, gives almost no money to this cause.
Listen to the message. If landmines were here, wouldn't you stand for their removal everywhere.
