The Statue weighs 12 tons and is 15 feet tall, it was erected in 1901 to a packed square of grateful Americans.

My family were Blacksmiths and have a home 1660 CIRCA in the town This statue is my ancestor.

As a kid I'd walk by this statue on my way to school and many time stop to think about the Minuteman immortalized in bronze. "He looks as tough as they get, and he's getting ready to go to Lexington and Concord and blow holes in the British tyrants sent to confiscate the colonists guns.

Most people don't realize the Lexington Concord Battle to start the War was more for self preservation than a lofty ideal of freedom from England.

If the colonists were to let British Soldiers take away their guns, they would be left defenseless against the marauding bands of wild Indians, and the savagery of the slaves.

The Minuteman Militia depicted in the statue were the first ones to fire on the soldiers.

That is how the War of Independence started.
