Hey thanks for the clips. I was just wondering if you wrote the comment attached to the clip on Orientalism as it contains an enormity - namely that the "West" "rarely had direct contact" with the "Muslims." To me that sort of general assertion is not borne out by the historical record and is a misrepresentation of Said's argument. Diplomatic, artistic and political exchanges between Christendom and the Muslim states (esp. the Ottoman Caliphate) were extensive and profound. Said argues that this mutual knowledge was skewed with colonialism when it became imperative for Europeans to extert control over the colonized.
