more
Blower door testing may seem complicated and hard to understand, but they are rather simple. The process consists of a powerful variable-speed fan which is temporarily mounted to an exterior doorway of the home. The fan moves air through the house in a controlled fashion, while pressure gages measure the rate of airflow required to maintain a certain pressure. The controlled airflow is used to find specific air leaks in your home. Those leaks not only lead to higher utility bills, but can impact comfort and indoor air quality. An energy audit, including a blower door test can help find those leaks which can be sealed. Hibbs Homes uses the tests as a way of quality control, to insure a well built, tight home. The blower door test can also be used if you're remodeling your home.

Thermal Imaging cameras (infrared cameras) are helping homeowners make their homes more efficient and save on their utility bills. In this video, a Buddy Fisher from Goley Insulation in the St. Louis area discusses the process of an energy audit. Infrared scanning is a great way to detect air leakage in the home. Special cameras are used to detect cold spots and heat variations. This will visually show the homeowner where the areas are that allow energy loss and need attention. These places may need additional insulation, or air sealing.

As an in-fill builder, Hibbs Homes often demolishes a home to make way for a new home. In this video, our client actually gets to operate the heavy equipment and take the first "swipe" at the home being demolished near St. Louis. Then the real "pro" takes over and in a matter of minutes, the entire home is on the ground. It's amazing how quickly a home comes down, then the lumber and concrete are separated and hauled off to the dump. The cost to demo a home is probably less than you think - $7,500 for a small home and upwards of $17,500 for a larger home with a basement. So the next time you find the perfect lot for your dream home, don't let it get away just because you have to demo an existing home before building your dream home.
