Heart n Soul is one of the UK's leading arts organisations led by artists with learning disabilities. It was established in 1986 and is based in South East London.
Heart n Soul works with over 80 artists regularly devising and rehearsing new shows, recording new music, learning design and technical skills, exploring new art forms including digital and live art and making films, such as 'Road Trip' (Channel 4/Keo Films 2004) and Celebrity Shotgun (2007).
In 1995, Heart n Soul piloted a club night event called The Beautiful Octopus Club. With live performance and DJs, the event was a response to the prejudice learning disabled people faced attending mainstream cultural events, and also created a platform for learning disability arts. In 1999 the Squidz Club for young people was added to Heart n Soul's regular programme.
Heart n Soul went on to establish the BOC at 2 other venues and similar clubs around the UK.
