Figures show that people who live in the poorer areas of Scotland have worse health and die younger than those people who live in well-off areas. There are a number of reasons why this might be the case, such as a lack of education or good quality affordable food. Each of these reasons increases the inequalities of health in Scotland.

The Government is focusing on the needs of people who live in the poorer areas of Scotland, and set up a Ministerial Task Force on Health Inequalities. The Task Force looks at ways in which things can be changed to help those who have poor health by tackling the causes and the effects. Young Scot worked with the Task Force in summer 2008 to investigate health in equalities in Scotland using video diaries. Each playlist on this page represents a possible cause of health inequalities, and contains videos from those young people involved, giving their views and opinions.
