Some of my ideas, I'll submit more as I think of them:
1. Promote & sponsor Earth Day NY. They host NYCs Earth Day Fair @ Grand Central, the largest NYC event to raise environmental awareness annually. It's important to populous cities, who's carbon footprints is Ginormous! They show NYers, through fun, creative & engaging ways, how to be more environmentally conscience, in a grass roots way.
2. T.V./Radio PSAs to disseminate the environmental consequences of throwing away plastics, plastic bags, batteries, Household chemicals(ie-jewelery cleaners), CFLs, CRTs & other electronics, & give them contact info for orgs that can pick up & dispose of it properly or give a drop-off site that recycle it.
The PSA's can go one step further to plant the seed of knowledge to reduce (plastic & environmental hazard consumption), & reuse.
3. A for FREE section on eBay, so buyers & sellers pay nothing for give away items. Keep a log of transaction details for tax write-off incentive programs. It could save the environment from the abandoned boats/yachts ppl can't afford to upkeep in these rough economic times, amongst other things!
Reusing is the highest form of re-cycling!!
Waste not, want not.
4. Wood & metal material/furniture etc & packaging material are thrown away daily. Ppl pay money for shipping boxes & packaging foam, & used furniture. Why not reuse? The pollution created recycling into new products is worse than reusing. Fund an org to pick up salvageable reusables on curbs or revamp furniture to make them reusable.
5. Bringing in your own containers to refill at Supermarkets/ Pharmacies, etc. For items such as Shampoos, Conditioners, food, etc. Instead of constantly buying new containers that you must throw away any way, that may sit in a landfill forever. =(
