recorderdevoix: For example: I'm Bill Blackford, originally from Detroit, Michigan. I started playing recorders more seriously about 7 years ago. My favorite recorder compositions are the baroque trios, "quadros", and concertos, but I love all the other repertoire as well and love it when musicians take the instrument in new directions.
DresdenAnachronism: I'm Maria, I'm 17, and I've been played recorder in elementary school. I've been interested in playing the recorder again for a while now, and have recently decided to take it way more seriously. I love the sound of it! I like early music (baroque/renaissance/medieval), church music, and traditional/folk music (american and foreign).

The recorder's acoustical properties
recorders: What do you think has more of an affect on a recorder's particular acoustical properties? The maker, the musician, the material, or what?
andrewc3142: To an extent, all three. Obviously, the wood sets the overall tone and the maker adds his/her voice. My absolute favourite is a Tim Cranmore voice flute made from boxwood. But despite its detractors I do believe the recorder as an instrument has qualities only the player can bring forth, or not. And I would add a fourth, being the type. I find the voice flute has a wonderful tone and is still quick enough (unlike a tenor in C). Alto is also nice, descant sometimes and sopranino almost never.

What are the best digital video camcorders for recording solo and ensemble recorder performances?

recorderdevoix: Thanks. Mine were made with a Sony Cybershot 5.1 I bought two years ago, but was recently stolen here in Ukraine. The technology/features change so quicky from year to year that I want to be sure what to buy next.

What do you think are the qualities of a good amateur recorder video?
Fippletest: Regardless of quality, an amateur video should at least be a recording of the actual amateur or a friend with permission granted. Breaches of Copyright, recordings of live performancers, TV programs or DVDs for sale commercially but illegitimately uploaded to U-Tube, these may be more pleasant to listen to but should not be welcome, nor should it be so difficult to work out which is which.
baiereuph: Agreed. When we wanted to record the duet, we contacted the composer and got permission first. He was notified when we posted it and he was one of the first to view it. He seemed quite pleased. One of the advantages of doing recorder music is that so much of the repertoire is in the Public Domain!

vestilagiubba: Please, excuse my english: In my country is very difficult to find works for the recorder...i have a few that i can share with youlall, but i'll appreciate a lot that we can share scores in order to increase the level of the recorder and make the people consider it as something more than a "toy".We can start by posting all the scores that we can share with others.
