As a guitarist for 26 years, with over a 1000 gigs and several studio albums behind me, I've developed an ear for classic "vintage" tones. I won't say "great" tone because a guitarist's tone is extremely subjective, and everyone has their own ideas about what's great. Where one player finds tonal nirvana in the classic "Plexi" tone another finds it in the spanky, crisp tones of a "Blackface," or the silky sustain of legendary "Class A" tone. I bring that knowledge and philosophy to my workbench and every amp I build or modify.

A little bit about me: I've been into music, electronics, and sound engineering since I was a teenager. I've played guitar in many bands (still do), have recorded and produced several CDs, and throughout the years I've learned a great deal about sound reproduction, both live and in the studio. I also have a college degree in industrial electronics, and have worked for AT&T as an electronic tech for 14 years. Above all else though, I still have a pretty good set of ears!

After building, repairing and modding amps for both my friends and myself for several years, I finally decided to get things "off the ground" properly and I founded Granger Amplification with a basic principle - to provide the best service and products I can, and to earn the customer's trust. With the assistance of a small, hardworking staff, we're getting things going nicely.

As you might expect, my custom, handcrafted, point-to-point wired amps are more about playability and tone than bells and whistles. They deliver that vintage era tonal magic that so many players love and treasure. More importantly, they are reasonably priced, unlike some companies amps who are charging more to support their product endorsee roster and please their stockholders than they are on R&D and construction methods.

Though my line of amps may sometimes resemble everyone's favorites, I have made incremental changes to make them more playable, and more gigable, i.e. reliable.

As you may have realized from your own experiences, many of today's mass-produced amps (that rely on cheaply produced PC boards, tiny surface mount parts and construction methods) lack that pure and harmonically rich tone that vintage amps create. You also may have discovered that the use of relays and effects loops contributes to the degradation of touch sensitivity. More experienced players demand the "less is more" approach because it allows their guitars to speak to them through their amps. My amps will warm your soul because I strive to maintain a direct signal path using the best components, which results in better tone regardless of what guitar you play. And when your amp is singing and music comes out of your fingers that you didn't even know was there, you've found the magic.
