How to Make a Shed
George Strait - That's My Kind of Woman
She can drive a truck and rope and ride
She feels right at home right by my side
That's my kind of woman
That's my cup of tea
That's my kind of woman
The one i want for me

She's got a pair of boots that she just loves
And like me, likes Gus from Lonesome Dove
That's my kind of woman
That's me to a "T"
That's my kind of woman
The one i want for me

Chorus:
After all I've seen and all I've done
I know somewhere there is someone
Who'll look my way and say
I want that one
That's my kind of woman
That's me to a "T"

No matter what she wears she turns my head
On rainy days, I can't pry her out of bed
Lord, I know the order's pretty tall
But find me and that'll be all

That's my kind of woman
That's me to a "T"
That's my kind of woman
The girl I want for me

Repeat Chorus

That's my kind of woman
The girl I want for me

She can drive a truck and rope and ride

The Moon's a Harsh Mistress - Joan Baez granako - 244 views - 2 weeks ago
The Moon's a Harsh Mistress - Joan Baez

See her how she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold

Once the sun did shine
Lord, it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pines
And then the darkness fell
And the moon's a harsh mistress
It's so hard to love her well

I fell out of his eyes
I fell out of his heart
I fell down on my face
Yes, I did, and I -- I tripped and I missed my star
God, I fell and I fell alone, I fell alone
And the moon's a harsh mistress
And the sky is made of stone

The moon's a harsh mistress
She's hard to call your own.

Joan Baez (born January 9, 1941 in Staten Island, New York) is a folk singer and songwriter known for her highly individual vocal style. Many of her songs are topical and deal with social issues.

She is perhaps best known for her hit "Diamonds & Rust" and her covers of Phil Ochs' "There But For Fortune" and The Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" (a top-five single on the U.S. charts in 1971), and to a lesser extent,"We Shall Overcome," "Love Is Just A Four-Letter Word" and "Farewell Angelina," "Sweet Sir Galahad" and "Joe Hill" (songs she performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival). She remains known for her long relationship with Bob Dylan and her lifelong passion for activism, notably in the areas of nonviolence, civil, human rights and, more recently, the environment.

Baez has performed publicly for over 50 years, released over 30 albums and recorded songs in at least eight languages. She is considered a folk singer although her music has strayed from folk considerably after the 1960s, encompassing everything from rock and pop to country and gospel. Although a songwriter herself, especially in the mid-1970s, Baez is most often regarded as an interpreter of other people's work, covering songs by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Jackson Browne, Paul Simon, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and myriad other artists. In more recent years, she has found success interpreting songs of diverse songwriters such as Steve Earle, Natalie Merchant and Ryan Adams. She has a three-octave vocal range and a distinctively rapid vibrato.

Utada Fly Me to the Moon
Poets often use many words
To say a simple thing
It takes thought and time and rhyme
To make a poem singing

With music and words I've been flying
For you I have written a song
To be sure that you'll know what I'm saying
I'll translate as i go along

Fly me to the moon,
And let me play among the stars
Won't you let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
In other words: Hold my hand!
In other words: Darling, kiss me!

Fill my heart with song,
And let me sing forever more
You are all I long for all I worship and adore
In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!

In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Glen Campbell and written by Jimmy Webb granako - 4,286 views - 7 months ago
Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Glen Campbell
Glen Campbell's finest album brings together again the singing/writing team of Campbell and Jimmy Webb that produced four Top 40 hits in 1967-69—"By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston" and "Where's the Playground Susie." In this inspired reunion, Campbell sings eight recent Webb songs, plus Lowell George's "Roll Me Easy" and Susan Webb's lovely "About the Ocean." Against Webb's excellent arrangements of his own material—beautiful string charts billow behind intricate pianism—Campbell delivers the strongest vocals of his career. While his version of Webb's great "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress" can't match Joe Cocker's for raw expressiveness, he addresses the song with a compassion that is almost as persuasive. The album also offers what I think is the first recorded version of "Adoration," one of the most musically sophisticated and psychologically complex songs in the Webb canon. Campbell masters the difficult musical phrasing and gives an affecting realization of the lyric, which portrays a lover's vanity. In the liner notes, Campbell writes of Webb: "He marries a lyric with a melody and a melody with a chord progression better than any writer today." Campbell is not far off the mark.

Jimmy Webb - The Moon's a Harsh Mistress
See her how she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold

Once the sun did shine
Lord, it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pines
And then the darkness fell
And the moon's a harsh mistress
It's so hard to love her well

I fell out of her eyes
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face

God, I fell and I fell alone, I fell alone
And the moon's a harsh mistress
And the sky is made of stone

Raised in Oklahoma and west Texas, Jimmy Webb launched a celebrated songwriting career while still in his teens, his "Up, Up And Away" topping the charts for The Fifth Dimension in 1967. During the Flower Power era, his lush, romantic pop songs -- "MacArthur Park" for Richard Harris and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" for Glen Campbell, to name a couple -- represented everything creatively vital about a Tin Pan Alley that was fast being overshadowed by songwriting performers like Dylan and The Beatles.

Success or no, Webb quickly saw the writing on the wall. "One thing I always knew was that once they know who you are, you're dead," he explains in Ben Edmonds' liner notes to this release. "I saw that I was rapidly pigeonholed, strapped into an electric chair called 'middle of the road songwriter.' I couldn't let that happen."

So in 1969 Webb embarked on a performance career noted for its studio innovation, large-scale ambition, and delicate song craft. While his 1970 debut, Words And Music, was tailored to the rock audience, Webb subsequently re-consolidated his orchestral gains, culminating in the back-to-back extravagance of Land's End (1974) and El Mirage (1977), the latter produced by George Martin.

Webb consistently impressed critics but sold few records. His peers have always recognized his genius, bestowing prestigious songwriting awards as well as Grammys for music, lyrics, and orchestration (Webb remains the only artist to be awarded in all three categories). And then there are the legions of loyalists. "It has been a somewhat strange career -- sometimes triumphant, sometimes bittersweet -- having this almost maniacal following of people who will travel anywhere to hear me perform, yet not ever having grasped the brass ring of major acceptance as a performer," he says in these liners.

This five-disc limited-edition boxed set contains the albums Words And Music (1970), And So: On (1971), Letters (1972), Land's End (1974), and El Mirage (1977), as well as previously unreleased 1972 live performances and a disc's worth of previously unreleased outtakes.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny granako - 321 views - 3 months ago
For Justine:)

Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny have been good friends since the 1970s, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that Beyond the Missouri Sky should be their first duet album together. Both musicians are from small towns in Missouri, which leads Metheny to speculate in the liner notes if this similarity of childhood ambience might have something to do with the two players' obvious love and affinity for each other. Whatever the answer, the result of this logical pairing is a rather somber and moody one. Metheny has a dark tone on his electric guitar, and on Beyond the Missouri Sky, where he plays acoustic, his sound is similarly deep and rounded. Metheny has called Haden one of the greatest improvisers of all time, and although this may be hyperbolic exaggeration from a longtime friend, Haden has at least earned the right to defend the claim. On Beyond the Missouri Sky, his playing is as sensitive and beautiful as always. Although one can understand the vibe that Haden and Metheny were going for, the preponderance of slow and mid-tempo material can wear on the listener. When they eschew the dirge-like tempos, as on the fantastic "The Precious Jewel," the results are just as atmospheric and are, in fact, even more evocative of the Midwestern landscapes that are featured so prominently in the album art. With Metheny setting up a strummy rhythm, Haden plays the stately melody with impeccable tone. This track, one of many, also showcases Metheny overdubbing different guitars to thicken out the sound of the performance. The results are similar, at least in spirit, to Bill Frisell's recordings in the latter half of the 1990s. Although many Metheny and Haden compositions that are featured on this record, it is their readings of older material that are most effective. The Jimmy Webb classic "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress" is wonderfully nostalgic, as Metheny uses subtle guitar and synth washes to pad a beautiful duet performance, and the traditional "He's Gone Away" is the greatest lullaby that never was. Overall, Beyond the Missouri Sky is a fine record when the material is happening, but a bit of a chore when it is not. If Haden and Metheny had gone with the more Americana theme throughout, instead of interspersing that rootsy feel with post-bop, it would have been a much stronger record. ~ Daniel Gioffre

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Vigdis Wisur

Personlige høydepunkter;
samtlige konserter med Robert Wells, "A tribute to Eva Cassidy", Beat for Beat, turnè i trespann med Yngvar Numme og Tor Erik Gunstrøm i forestillingen "Swingende Gla'skap", Julekonsertene "Vigdis med venner" og det å holde debut-cd'en min i hånda.
