"Civil Liberties" is an 18-episode series about two newsstand workers - Ahmed and Mody - and what happens to them after they are mistaken for terrorists after 9/11.

This is the first film to use software vocoder technology to make the actors spoken voices 'sing'. Sometimes the actors sing techno melodies; other times their voices have an eerie harmonizing effect, making them sound like a frightening 10 person robot choir.

Posted on this site are two of the movie trailers and all 18 episodes of "Civil Liberties."

"Civil Liberties" began as an avant-garde musical that premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival - the largest theater festival in North America.

Three of the songs from "Civil Liberties" were featured on Janet Colemans show on radio station WBAI in New York City, KPFT in Houston, Texas, and other affiliated public radio stations.

This was the first live stage musical to have the vocal lines improvised and harmonized by the composer at every show using vocoder software.

"Civil Liberties" was then filmed, making it the first movie musical to use software vocoder technology to make the actors spoken voices 'sing' on film.

The film "Civil Liberties" was featured at the New FilmMakers series at the prestigious New York City independent film theater - the Anthology Film Archives; the New FilmMakers series is produced by New Yorks Angelika Film Center.
