The Girl Effect: The powerful social and economic change brought about when girls have the opportunity to participate in their society.

WHY GIRLS?

Because when adolescent girls in the developing world have a chance, they can be the most powerful force of change for themselves, their families, communities and nations.

But while those 600 million girls are the most likely agents of change, they are invisible to their societies and the world.

So what can you do about that? Get yourself seen, whether you're a girl or just believe in girls. Tell us when your voice is posted, and we'll add it here.

If you're ready to learn and do more, head over to girleffect.org.

this who;e idea is blatant sexism. let's loan/give money to the girls only and screw the males.
if a massive movement that only helped males was set up, it would be banned.

also, it would be more logical to help the males anyway, because males have done so much more for the world in the last 100years than women have in all recorded history.

It's fucking pathetic that the 'girl effect' is aiming to have have more support than oxfam or any worthy charity.

Thank you for increasing the awareness of this. Even in the United States, girls in good communities suffer from things like this, if not on such a wide scale. You have my complete support. I was moved completely by the video.

Thank you for making the girl effect video. I truly believe a lot can change because of a girl, or anybody else in this world!!

and i also love the fact that when they ask if the world is a mess, there really is no choice to disagree.

nike has as much respect for human rights as the next girl that wants cheap stuff. If multinationals that use cheap labour were a problem, maybe we should all sequester ourselves in man-made caves and live off only what we can make ourselves. i wonder how on earth i'd have a computer if that were the case. as for the video, it is complete bullocks. the world is not a mess; any who really believe so only exasperate existing problems. sure, not everything's perfect and i can speak off a high horse, being in the top 10% of the world's population. but to put images of needy, starving children on a postcard for public sympathy is a shallow play on emotions. not that education and investment in assets are bad, but this is a serious economic issue that efforts like this have been failing at for decades. you can't go in with all heart and no head, and there are other solutions besides catharsis.

@nexivdr - maybe you're thinking about women in the western world, where a lot of progress has been made. But this video talks about the developing world, where what you say about women's lives, opportunities and rights is completely untrue (I'd go so far as saying total BS).
