Biography
Gijs van Winkelhof (1985) graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts in 2007. He studied Composition for the Media (music for film, television and theatre). For his final project he wrote the score for the film Ik Ook by Danny Maas. The film has been shown at the Dutch Film Festival of Utrecht in september and october 2007.
During his four month training period he worked at the Hithouse Studios with composer Ronald Schilperoort. Hes known for his music for the Dutch soapoperas Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden, Onderweg Naar Morgen and for his filmmusic. During his training period Gijs worked on a dramaserie about laywer twins (Dankert & Dankert) and recorded a cd with singer Anne-Marie Drop.
In march 2006 he performed on the piano during the benefitconcert Hoop doet een mens leven. He accompanied various artists like René van Kooten, Bill van Dijk and Laura Vlasblom. Since that concert he performed regularly with Laura Vlasblom. They performed on the New Year gala of the soccer club AZ in the arena of Alkmaar.
In June 2006 his Community-Opera Bij het leven for soprano and cello premiered in Utrecht. He wrote this piece for the Yo-Festival of Utrecht. In the same year he wrote and produced the music for a magicshow for Illusionist Sittah. In august she became the World Champion with that show in Stockholm.
In 2008 Gijs wrote the music for a televisionshow for children called Wonderkids. Its broadcasted on a daily basis on WOS (de Westlandse Omroep Stichting). In august 2008 he wrote the song Jij maakt het verschil (You make the difference) for the Salvation Army in Holland. Two months later Paul de Leeuw (a television comedian, singer and actor) recorded this song for his new cd Het Wordt Winter. In december he performed the song live on his television show Mooi! Weer de Leeuw.
In january 2009 the musical Super Model premiered at the Krasnapolski in Amsterdam. Gijs produced and arranged the final song of this musical.
Since october 2007 he has his own company called Gijs van Winkelhof Music Productions. Gijs is specialized in making music for film, television and theatre. He also makes instrumental productions of excisting songs for artists and theatre productions.
