I have belly-button length hair that is super straight and thick. Each time i try to curl it, it falls out within 15 mins. I use tons of hairspray and gel but it never works. Can you help me please?

When I comb dry my hair, it's straight, but the ends split. Does this flat iron eventually split your ends? Be honest please.
