The testing on Friday went very well and it allowed me find the shift and braking points and setting up the car for this track the Auto Club Speedway. (formerly known as California Speedway)
Saturday was the official practice and qualifying race, which I was very happy with as I started 11th on the grid and finished 7th overall. About a quarter into the race the camera lens was hit by a rock, but it continued recording until end of the race. About half way into the earlier practice session, my right side mirror got loose and then turned 180 degrees pointing forward :-). So, I depended on the corner workers to finish the race. It reminded me how important the corner workers are to ensure our safety.
On Sunday it was time for the Trophy Race (no video). I started 4th on the grid as there were a couple of cars which had technical difficulties during the warmup. By turn two, I lost two positions as I was passed by two Formula 2. Later, I managed to fight back to 5th and hold the position until about 2 laps before the checkered flag. Unfortunately, I missed my braking in turn 5 and spun and stalled the car. While trying to restart the engine, I had to painfully watch most of the hard work, (four cars), race by me. Since there were only 2 laps to go in the race, I didnt have enough time to regain my position and I finished 9th overall.
A special thank you to Good Karma Racing http://www.goodkarmaracing.net for supporting our racing.
Next race will be on August 29th-30th at the Infineon Raceway, which should suit my Formula Renault 2.0 better as it is a more technical and less horsepower dependent track.
