<media:description>When her parents couldn’t afford her education, Pinki didn’t let that stop her.

She went to her teachers, her local government — anyone who would listen — and made her case. That single act of courage changed everything.

Today, Pinki wears many hats. She is a social mobilizer, a climate activist, and a Rupantaran life skills facilitator, helping young girls and boys in her community find their voice, stand up for their rights, and lead with confidence.

“Everything is possible if you speak up,” she says. 💙

<media:description>Across Nepal, Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) is transforming how children learn and grow. Classrooms that once focused only on rote memorization are now vibrant, play-based spaces where children explore, imagine and develop the skills they need for lifelong learning.

With support from the Government of Nepal, co-funding from the European Union and technical assistance from UNICEF, teachers are being trained, classrooms improved and parents engaged in their children’s early education. Together, these efforts are helping children enter school confident, curious and ready to thrive.

<media:description>At Nepal's only Human Milk Bank, Amrit Kosh, the gift of life is passed from mother to mother, keeping fragile newborns alive — one drop of breastmilk at a time.

“She got a new life,” says Sarita Khatri, whose underweight newborn was fed donated milk when she couldn’t breastfeed. “At a time when I could barely stand up because I was in so much pain, it was such a big support for me.”

<media:description>Despite all the odds stacked against her throughout her young life, Suman from Rautahat has finished school and is now studying to become a civil engineer. Confident, cheeky and always curious, she believes every girl should have the chance to be heard.

It was through the Supporting Adolescent Girls' Education (SAGE) programme - an initiative implemented by UNICEF and partners with support from the European Union, the Government of Finland and Let Us Learn - that had brought Suman back to school after dropping out for several years. And she has not looked back since. This is her story, told in her voice, on her terms.

Watch how participatory storytelling is shifting how we see and hear girls.</media:description>

<media:description>“I used to think I had to solve everything on my own. Not anymore.”

In western Nepal, young people are building the emotional skills to open up, manage stress, and seek help with socio-emotional learning tools. One of the most loved tools? A comic book called Shandaar Shanti (Magnificent Mei and Friends), where young readers see their own challenges faced—and overcome.

‘Thriving Together’, the global partnership between the Z Zurich Foundation and UNICEF, provides resources to help young people and their caregivers build resilience and navigate everyday challenges.

Mental wellbeing support should start early, and it should start everywhere.

<media:description>Children and young people are on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

From disrupted education to food insecurity and emotional distress, the impacts are already here.

Despite the challenges, they’re leading change — promoting sustainable practices, raising awareness, and advocating for action.

But they can’t do it alone. Their voices and needs must be at the centre of climate action and solutions.

<media:description>“The doctor looks after me very well. That’s why I like it here.” – Seema, 12

For children like Seema living with chronic illnesses such as thalassemia, long-distance travel for care used to be the norm. Now, thanks to a new UNICEF initiative, specialized treatment is available much closer to home.

Through dedicated PEN-Plus clinics in four referral hospitals — including Siraha—the programme is improving early detection, treatment and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in children and adolescents.

Implemented under the leadership of Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population and in partnership with the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health, this initiative is making care more accessible, timely and effective for families across Nepal.

<media:description>“I was too distracted—cutting grass, fetching firewood, looking after cattle. There was no time for studies.”

Savitra’s childhood was shaped by responsibilities that left little room for education. Now, as she watches her daughter Sita going to school, making friends and learning, she sees the life she once wished for herself taking shape in the next generation.

This has been reinforced by Sita's participation in the Rupantaran life skills programme, developed by UNICEF and UNFPA in collaboration with the Government of Nepal. The programme equips adolescents aged 10 to 19 with essential knowledge and skills to navigate their lives and make informed choices about their futures.

Savitra is proud of the changes she's seeing in her daughter. &quot;She’s much more thoughtful. She’ll ask me to explain things so we can understand each other better, and she explains herself, too.&quot;
