This is from a while back. I took this scenic view in the gorgeous mountainous region of central Taiwan, from the 48K observation deck of Snow Mountain (Hsueh-shan) to be precise.
Apologies for the sub-par lighting and camera work. I did not have a tripod and I was running out of time and battery power, so I had to shoot this in one go. But even with my mediocre skills, the beauty of this part of Taiwan still turned out to be well presented.
The music is "Elders Drinking" by Difang Duana, who was a farmer belonging to the Malin sub-tribe, which is part of the Amis Taiwan indigenous aboriginal tribe. He was born on March 20th of 1921. Sadly he passed away on March the 29th of 2002. But hopefully he has accepted Jesus and is with God now, since I believe he is a Christian or a Catholic, like many Taiwan indigenous aboriginals.
Enigma and EMI had "sampled" Difang Duana's song without acknowledgement or prior consent; to sell millions of albums as the promotional theme song for the 1996 Summer Olympics.
The only thing Difang Duana had wanted was acknowledgement for the song he and his wife sang. But instead EMI wanted to settle this in court. Eventually after three years in July of 1999 they settled this out of court.
These are the result, as far as I am aware, and am able to gather:
1. The defendant, EMI, acknowledges the couple.
2. The defendant, EMI, gave the couple two platinum CD. (Roll eye)
3. They used the settlement fund to setup "Difang Duana Scholarship".
So much for copyright, EMI. You stole Difang Duana's song without any qualms and sold millions of albums, and yet you want us to pay for digital iPod copies of CDs we own.
I am also wondering, with all this talk of love Taiwan by certain parties within Taiwan, political or otherwise; why is it I can only find Enigma's "Return to innocence" instead of Difang Duana's "Elders Drinking"? Thus I have to create this video, so this song can be found. So much for this love of Taiwan.
