Juslene is a young Haitian woman beginning her year long midwifery training with Midwives for Haiti in a country with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the western hemisphere.

Every Mother Counts and Midwives for Haiti have teamed up to increase the number of skilled birth attendants available to assist pregnant women in Haiti. EMC's grant supports the training of 15 midwives for one year. Each midwife will in this year provide prenatal care to nearly 1,500 women and deliver between 120 and 240 babies. Stay tuned as we release new short films following the midwifery students throughout the year.
