On Monday, July 20, 2009, I went to Dr. Packer's office hours at Regent College in Vancouver, Canada to ask him some questions about preaching. As I knew would be the case, I learned a lot. Dr. Packer is a brilliant man who has written such books as "Knowing God" and "Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God." He has also recently written a work on the atonement with Mark Dever.

As he spoke to me about preaching, he referred to Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. He spoke about him with such reverence. I would have loved to sit under Jones; he has affected so many people's lives.
Outside of Jesus Christ and the men in the Bible, the 5 men who have made the most impact on my life are: Hywel Jones (http://www.wscal.edu/faculty/bios/jonesh.php), D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Charles Spurgeon, Dennis Johnson (http://www.wscal.edu/faculty/bios/johnson.php), and newly J.I. Packer. I've only read his books, but with the interaction I've had with him over the past week and a half, I've come to really admire this man. Praise God the faithful!
