Because you people keep asking, here's my setup/workflow:

video game console ⇒ component/hdmi cable ⇒ video switch/scaler (for SD content) ⇒ HD capture card (although, any capture card will do, really!) ⇒ capture using virtualdub/iuvcr as avi/huffyuv ⇒ edit in virtualdub/avisynth ⇒ encode to various formats for upload. The youtube upload limit was increased to 1GB a while back, so the better the quality of the file you upload the better the result (maybe).

That's it. For further details, please use google or your favorite search engine. Everything else is just hardware and you can just about use whatever you have lying around. Obviously though, the higher quality the output the better the result will be. But, please don't buy any specific capture card without doing a whole lot of research first, and (hopefully) some previous experience in video capture/video encoding. It's not necessarily the right card for everyone or every task. An expensive capture card WILL NOT magically improve your youtube quality; most of that is just a lot of testing and time spent encoding and trying out different things over and over again until you get the settings just right.
