It's dry, but shows some amazing scenes of the moving read write heads, the servo parts and an incredibly detailed explanation of how the SDF found its sectors, even between interchangeable disk packs that could be "shipped" to other locations with the same drives to share data. The SDF as the first hard disk drive to demonstrate the concept of "flying heads", whereby the read/write heads can actually take off and land from the disk platters, which eventually reduced the complication of hard disks and improved reliability. The SDF was phased out as technical limitations began to limit future growth potential. This film strip is likely from the late 1950s or very early 1960s, although no date information is currently available. ca 1958-1962.   less
