There are two circular cast-ons that I've seen floating around on the web that I like to use. The one I use ends up being the one I remember at the time because they are *really* similar. There's the version in TECHknitter's blog called the disappearing loop method, and there's the one from Eunny Jang's retired blog called the lighter circular cast-on.

For the Ravelry "I'll show you mine..." thread. This is how I knit; Continental Combined of the Western knit/Eastern purl variety. I can work conventional Continental as well, but I don't usually bother. The only time I do it is when I would have to re-orient the majority of my stitches to Western for a stitch pattern.

The lighting isn't as bright and I was in a bit of a hurry so apologies for all the drifting out of frame and jerky motions.
So, I played around with this decrease because I thought it would work up beautifully in an off-set pattern. It reminds me of eyelet cables, and I really like the dimensionality and texture. But in working it over and over again, I realized my "preferred" way of doing it wasn't as efficient as something closer to the original described method. So here's an "improved" method:
Knit two together, but instead of drawing the newly made stitch through both the first and second stitch, separate or split the first and second stitch and only bring the new stitch through the first. Then pull this malformed "k2tog" off the left hand needle. This will leave the new stitch and the second stitch sitting on the right hand needle tip. Next knit the third stitch of the set, and pass the second stitch, which is still sitting on the right hand needle tip, over the new stitch, dropping it off the right hand needle tip. = Two from three.

From a ravelry discussion where Luckyfind describes creating a decrease and I can't leave well enough alone. I think it's very nifty looking. I do think I've seen it somewhere before, but I can't for the life of me remember where. Whether it's new or not, it is a very attractive centered decrease.
Structurally, it's as if you slipped the middle stitch, worked the first and last, and then passed the middle stitch over both. But it's easier to k2tog, then lift the left leg of the top stitch just worked (the 2nd stitch), and then knit that and the next stitch tbl. The next stitch can be re-oriented first so it's not twisted, but it's not very noticeable at the gauge at which I tested it.
