Hey Eric - about the format - I believe that the actual native format may be the same as your Sony, however, my camera actually has the AVCHD codec - and I use Final Cut Express 4.0 HD (mac) which supports and transcodes the AVCHD videos into (I believe) MOV files. So yeah -- I love it though -- all I do is plug in the cam, select what videos I want to transfer, and bam! lol. Hopefully I answered your question
