1980 is a technical prog metal band from France.Their music is entirely instrumental,and displays a wide array of influences from bands such as MESHUGGAH(one of the songs on their debut is named "Meshuggreich"),the fusion influence of CYNIC(combining death metal and jazz),and the atmospheric soundscapes of post rock.1980 manages to take all these elements and create interesting,original music that is a breath of fresh air in this genre.
"Billing their sound as "progressive jazz metal", this young trio from Germany are poised to set the fusion world on fire. Consisting of Benjamin Schwenen on guitars/synth guitar/programming, Thorsten Harnitz on drums and HD Lorenz on bass, CWE blend metal edged guitar crunch with a jazz oriented rhythm section. In some ways they remind me of a metal version of McGill Manring Stevens. They have a clean but explosive sound - lots of dynamics going on here. Fans of 7for4, Joe Satriani, and Steve Morse get ready to have your minds blown.
