A lot of the naysayers have been saying that we should stop complaining and come up with solutions. Ok, here's a few solutions. The biggest one is for large companies to change how they look at the internet and it's culture, to embrace it and not shun it, and work an exception deal for the fans.
Naturally they'll never see this, but I'm hoping that one of them might cet a clue, and find these videos, and possibly be enlightened.

A link of interest, you CAN dispute the copyright claims from WMG / Youtube! Look for the video in your list, and there's a spot you can dispute it. If you do, you get a screen that says the following. (THIS IS FROM YOUTUBE DIRECTLY! http://www.youtub... (And your video ID number)) --- There are very few valid reasons for disputing a claim. Submitting an invalid dispute can result in penalties against your account.
Invalid reasons to dispute a claim
* I own the CD / DVD or I bought the song from iTunes.
Buying a song, CD, DVD, or other piece of media doesn't give you authorization to post that content on YouTube.
* The content was only a part of my video.
In almost all cases, you need permission from the content owner to use even part of their work in your video. Learn more about Copyright here.
* There are other videos on YouTube with the same content. It's only fair that I can use it too.
Copyright is all about forbidding some people from using material that others are allowed to use. Someone else's use doesn't give you permission.
* I'm sorry, I just want my video back up, I gave credits in the description.
Giving credit does not give you authorization to upload the content.
* I'm not selling my video or trying to make money.
That doesn't matter. ---
So it's obvious at this point what youtube's stance is currently. And they're making threats to "penalize" accounts for making disputes without making a panel of lawyers rich.
The thing is that "Youtube" is performing a "cover your own ass" thing. They make money off of hosing the videos we create, and WMG wants a chunk of that. If the C-net article is correct, WMG made a last second demand for more money, and google/youtube performed the ultimate low blow by pulling videos, claiming it's WMG, and washing their hands of any blame in all this. The language used in the "dispute" page pretty much proves to me that they don't care about us, they only care about protecting their own asses. They aren't going to defend us, nor go to bat for us in the corporate arena, nor stand up for us in any way, or so anything for us unless it makes them more money.
So, it's up to us to become activists and make change happen.
I believe we all know what we need to do here.

And finally, recomended reading. we're all copyright infringers on a day to day basis. : http://arstechnic... "John Tehranian, a law professor at the University of Utah, calculates in a new paper that he rings up $12.45 million in liability over the course of an average day."
Copyright laws are stopping creativity. Something's gotta give here, and it won't be the creative spirit.

SEQUEL : http://www.youtub... Some possible solutions to answer people who complained that we're all complaining too much.
lock and load. Yes, this bothers me this much. When I see people kill creativity to make money it burns me up. And I've been seeing a LOT of people with "fair use" content having their videos yanked over this. So yes, this bothers me. Don't like it? Don't watch.
And I still maintain that a major problem is when "artists" become "businessmen". how many people know Lars Ulrich had controlling interest in a recording label for a while? Right around when he went after Napster. Coincidence? I think not. But now, I see information that leads me to think Youtube isn't nearly as "victim" as they're trying to play themselves off as. I think they're happy to let the masses believe they did nothing, when it might be the case that they're the ones forcing the issue here and turning the screws on Warner. We'll see how it plays out in the next few weeks, but I think the time to do something is *now*.
