First a sentence about spammers. Sometimes freaks from places like Live-Leak wander over here to Youtube and leave their messes. Anyone who can bench 4 plates or better is stronger than 98.5 percent of the population. I use the closed grip but I did see a vid of a serious lifter doing about 485 drop the bar with the closed grip. They ran the vid a second time in super-slow mo and it was like his thumbs both snapped at the same time even though they didn't really break. If the bar gets out of the saddle formed by the palm of the hand it's bad news. Since the USC foot-baller suffered serious injuries I now use a spotter with his hands on the bar at all times. Like you say it's not an ego thing so I want my spotter to be applying positive lift on the bar just in case. If he's taking 20 pounds so-be-it. I can always add weight. Keep lifting safely! I have met a lot of wonderful intelligent caring people in my 30 years of lifting!

Hey Man, I want to apologize for the other comment I left on that Bench video, you're completely right and I overreacted...It just bugs me when people come across as a smart ass over the Internet, cuz they think they're big, not saying that's what you were doing but a lot of people do so yeah..
