About Me:
I don't do reviews of products because that's expensive and because I'm the farthest thing from a product junkie, so please refrain from asking :) I don't know how to care for permed hair because I haven't had a perm in over 10 years or so please consult someone who has a perm regarding your perm questions. I'm not a cosmetologist so I can't answer all your questions..I pretty much only know MY hair because I've lived with it :)
I cut off my heat/color damaged hair back in 2003 and have remained natural.
I limit the use of heat and I'm just here to share what works for me, get some of my questions answered and continue having fun with my big curly lion's mane. It's really all about the love and acceptance of your natural textured hair.
FAQs
How long have you been natural?
I say 2003 because that's when I woke up and chopped off 4 inches damaged hair (by both heat and coloring). I haven't had a relaxer since the late 90s. So about 6 years.
Did you transition? How?
No I didn't transition. After the perm in the late 90s..I just wore my hair straight and the permed hair pretty much broke off on it's own. I probably should have transitioned but I wasn't in that mind set. My hair was damaged by too much heat to where it looked stringy when wet like permed hair.
What is your hair texture/type?
I have a video for you to view but I would say 4a. I don't really ponder too much about hair type.
What style do you wear most of the time?
Flat twist outs, regular twist outs, or a curly fro. I do this because I happen to like big hair.
Do you tie your hair up every night? How do your set it?
I sleep with a satin scarf on EVERY night. I twist my hair up EVERY night...either twists or braids..but it gets tied up. Every blue moon I might just put it in a pony tail and then put on a scarf but that's for when I get home very late. I add product when I feel the need to (most of the time, it's just a spray mix of leave in conditioner and water. I use shea butter afterwards.)
Does it take you a long time to tie your hair up every single night?
Not really..I don't notice it because I always tie my hair up while I'm watching tv. Taking it down in the mornings takes less than 10 minutes.
How often do you trim your hair?
I don't have a schedule for trimming but I suppose every 6 months, I'll try to trim a bit.
How do I transition?
Easiest way is to wear protective styles such as braids or kinky twists so you can a.) leave your hair alone and b.) not have to worry too much about the different textures. I wore kinky twists for a while when I first cut my hair and it was so nice and healthy after taking them down. You can also wear braid outs, you should ask someone who is currently transitioning what their routine is because they're on the same page as you.
What staple products should I have?
Shea Butter, Aloe Vera Gel, Vegetable glycerin, leave in conditioner, coconut oil, shea butter...Other accessories include a spray bottle, satin scarf, and scalp oil. They'll help you out a great deal. I don't use much other than these products. It's really not that complicated..in fact, it's only as complicated as you make it! :)
Where can I buy shea butter from online?
This is the Ebay Shea butter seller used by Rustic Beauty

Can you do a video on how to braid/plait, two strand twist, flat twist, etc?
I don't think it's necessary for me to do videos on these when there are already videos on youtube that show how. I show the styles that I do and if they include twisting, you'll see it in there. If you see a style you'd like me to try, let me know, If I like it I'll try it lol.

Can you post some pics of your hair growth journey? It's hard to tell within the last year if your hair has grown at all.
