Our Jersey Cows Coming Home Thanks! They are all our babies..hehe. All of them were born here on the farm. In the last 5 weeks we had added 18 newborn heifers out of 34 born. The rest were bull calfs. (1 month ago) |

Thank You! Sometimes I wish we had someone else here milking, or would milk at least 2 full days for us. My husband has not had but one milking off in the 19 yrs of milking.
We will probably be selling the whole herd in about 2 yrs as he will be retiring. That will be one sad day when it comes.

Yes, we have a Jersey bull, we usually keep one for about one or two breeding seasons. Once a bull starts acting mean, he is sent to the sale barn. Our Jersey bull does not run with the herd, he stays with the dry cows and when a cow is needing bred, she goes in with the bull and the dry cow pasture. We have had our share of mean bulls, and they don't stay here long.

Hi,
There is not an Ayshire in our herd..we do have a couple that are Guersney crossed and some Brown Swiss crosses. We get about 40# tank average on our Jersey's. We chose Jersey's because of the butterfat and protein content of their milk, which in turns means more money per hundred weight for our milk.
