These classical or compositional improvisations for the piano are driven by a desire to create spontaneous music that is new yet accessible.
The improvisations—informed as they are by my own written work as a composer, and not merely by older styles of classical music—are performed in the virtuoso spirit of the great composer/pianists of the early twentieth century (Scriabin, Messiaen). Because Scriabin is such a large influence, I want to think of my improvs as little pieces of his "Mysteria"--thus "Mysteria Improvisations".
The Yamaha in most of these videos is a "grantouch"; that is, it has the complete action of a true grand, but the hammers hit sensors instead of strings.
