When I started college back in the early 80's the world's population was around 5 billion people. Now it's 2009, and that figure has grown to over 6.7 billion, indicating our rate of growth will eventually surpass our ability to provide for the people here. Natural food sources are diminishing, pollution is overwhelming, and our rain forests are disappearing. Is it any wonder why the global elite are planning to change things? I was surprised to learn many of these powerful people have addressed this situation before, but every solution they came up with was rejected by the public.

Apparently, men throughout the world are offended when anyone suggests they curtail their sexual activities in any way, even if they're offered free vasectomies. Several programs were introduced over 50 years ago to slow the growth rate of the world's population, but too many cultures thought the intentions were racist and unacceptable, so the results were disappointing. Now the elite are contemplating other means of reducing the world's population. So whatever happened to the challenge of exploring space and colonizing other planets? Unfortunately, the time for that is not yet here, and if the human race is to progress, this problem of reducing the population's growth rate must be taken care of here and now.

According to Robert Malthus, population growth is geometric, not arithmetic. This means the growth rate will increase far more over the next 25 years than the last period. Though he suggested war, disease, and famine as natural deterrents to the growth rate, wars are limited in scope to the countries fighting them, and they don't stop the explosion of births outside the battle zones. Also, nuclear war would destroy too much infrastructure, and rebuilding couldn't even begin until the radiation levels turned safe again. With new medical and agricultural developments, disease and famine have been rendered ineffective. So what can we do about this? How can we achieve a more humane and effective population control?

There are ways to balance our lives without too much suffering, so think carefully about their content. What's the answer? First and foremost, education, but not about sex, condoms, or any such nonsense. If you want your children to get an excellent education by means that have proven effective in EVERY study, then boys and girls must be placed in separate class rooms at least during middle and high school. Extra-curricular activities should also be separate with classes available to reintroduce the genders in preparation for college where they can be reunited on some level. This would improve education and reduce teen pregnancies. I've had 13 and 14 year old mothers on my school bus, so I should know!

It may also be possible to curb the population growth without war, disease, or famine by using social trends to help cut the birth rate. Many Japanese women have already done this in favor of starting careers, which suggests an option for our own culture as more careers become available to American women. I propose a presidential task force to study population trends and develop strategies for encouraging individual life-pursuits which specifically exclude starting families.We must reduce the global birth rate, but this means starting a successful program at home and then inviting others to learn our methods. All viable options must be studied and presented in an open and evolving plan to be successful. NOTE: This idea is NOT related to Planned Parenthood and has nothing to do with abortions.
