Bonyen Lee of R News Time Warner Cable emcees the celebration of the 5 year anniversary of The Baobab Cultural Center founded by Moka Lantum, a community wellness event touting simple ways to be healthy and raise funds for the expansion of the Baobab Eco-Dome African Cultural Arts Center. The Inaugural Walk Brunch N Vibe with ARTitude in Ellison Park. David Klein, CEO of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and John Urban, President, Greater Rochester Health Foundation join to promote healthy living and exercise for fitness and longevity. A community wellness event on Sunday, July 12, will tout simple ways to be healthy and raise funds for the expansion of the Baoabab African Cultural Arts Center. The Walk Brunch N Vibe for Afro-ARTitude event will run from 9:00AM -1:00PM. at the Spruce Shelter in Ellison Park. Excellus BlueCross BlueShield CEO and President David Klein will kick off the 5K walk at 9:30AM. John Urban, President, Greater Rochester Health Foundation, will welcome participants to the brunch after the walk at 11:00AM. Excellus BCBS and the Greater Rochester Health Foundation are sponsors of the event. Activities include Yoga in the Park and Gospel Pilates. Tropical brunch will be served and include a variety of fresh tropical blended fruit juices, hearty bean soups and fruit-based dishes. Healthy Baobab Tree cookies will be prepared by Cookie Artisan Creations. Teams of six people pre-registered by July 6 will also receive t-shirts. The cost of event admission is $25 per adult and $10 per child. Event proceeds will benefit the expansion of the Baobab Cultural Center in Rochester, which celebrates its 5th year this fall. The Earth dome technique was developed by Iranian-born architect Nader Khalili of Cal Earth Institute, Hesperia, California, to demonstrate a simple and economical solution to real estate development for philanthropic purposes. These green structures are built with cement or lime stucco stabilized earth and consists of a large central dome, surrounded by four smaller niches and a wind-scoop, in a clover leaf pattern. The success of the project relies directly upon community involvement and support. Dr. Moka Lantum, founder of the Baobab Cultural Center, remarks, We want people to learn about affordable earthen architecture and participate together in building the center's new facility.
