Works of Wonder is a four-part modular program with sections that may be shown individually, in pairs and in any order. It offers all the flexibility educators need when teaching about labor and childbirth and includes a comprehensive educators study guide.This program features birth stories narrated by parents, an animated sequence illustrating the anatomy and physiology of labor, and overview of common medical procedure and options, as well as a section introducing Cesarean birth.
Part One: Three Birth Stories presents an overview of childbirth practices today and offers a visual catalog of comfort measures for managing labor. This part features and uncomplicated vaginal delivery, an induced labor and a birth with epidural anesthesia.
Part Two: The Miracle Within uses computer animation intercut with live footage to illustrate the anatomy and physiology of labor and birth. Documenting the progress of Jas and Keiths birth experience, 3D animation conveys concepts that are difficult to explain in words along, such as the stages of labor, effacement and dilation, fetal descent and pelvic station.
Part Three: Medical Procedures and Options in Childbirth describes in detail common medical practices and options for medication in childbirth. Short, live video segments describe the risks and benefits of fetal monitoring, IV fluids, induction and augmentation, narcotic analgesia, epidural anesthesia, interventions to relieve back labor pain and more.
Part Four: A Cesarean Birth Story presents a realistic picture of an unplanned Cesarean birth. Terri and Ryans birth story begins with a clear attempt to deliver vaginally and shows the discussion among midwife, obstetrician and mother leading to the decision to do a Cesarean. Expectant parents will learn about: anesthesia for surgery, OR staff, abdominal and uterine incisions (in animation), fathers role, suggestions for recovery and breastfeeding in the recovery room.
