The Chicago Red Stars are the First Women's Professional Soccer franchise EVER in the Windy City, and Chicagoland's newest professional sports team! We will kick off our inaugural season in Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) on Sunday, April 19, 2009 vs. New York/New Jersey Sky Blue FC at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL (home of the Chicago Fire).
Women's Professional Soccer is the highest women's professional soccer league in the United States. Formed in September 2007 as the result of the efforts of the Women's Soccer Initiative, Inc., WPS, which will begin play in April 2009 with seven teams across the country. Philadelphia will join the league in 2010.
The teams for the 2009 season are:

- Chicago Red Stars
- LA Sol
- Sky Blue (NY/NJ)
- St. Louis
- Washington Freedom
- Bay Area
