Thank you for your kind words. It is a very meaningful song for me as well. I will never forget singing the song at Sardarabad for Armenian Independence Day celebrations.

There is a difference between suffering the consequence of sin and being punished for sin. If you willfully and wrongfully injure someone... it is your sin and you will be punished for it. But the person you injured suffers from the sin you committed. That person suffers from the consequence of sin. In the same way a child is born into the world and is injured by it. An infant is not capable of sin, but will suffer the consequence of sin in the world. The day does, however, come when the child grows and knows that he or she can make a choice.... to sin, or not sin... and will sin because of his or her fallen nature which is inherited from Adam. We have the nature of God in us and the fallen nature of Adam... and God wants to restore us unto Himself. And to restore us.... He does so with love. Salvation would not be the work of love if God had sacrificed someone other than Himself. Jesus was not merely a man... He is God. |

Soldior:
Exodus 18:20 is speaking about eternal death, i.e., separation from God. And yes, you are right... no ordinary man is able to take the burden of sin (eternal death) off another man. But Jesus can and He did... because He is God. God in His love for his friends gave His own life for them and only He could pay the price because only He is perfect. Sin cannot pay the price for sin. It takes innocense to pay the price. Jesus was innocent, he had never sinned. It was not possible for Jesus to sin... because he is God. |
